This is my favorite of all these TV short stories, the gradual feminization of her son, as he willingly submits to his Mother's suggestions. I've read this a few more times, it's a great story. The end picture of Terri dressed as Miss Elizabeth, kissing her leading man, leaves you wanting more from the characters.

It frail young teenage who started to develop breasts. For many teenagers its a wonderful thing. But for Terry. Its not! Terry a young boy! He has form gynecomastia. To put it simple develop breasts. His cousin wanted him to be the maid of honor. So his mother introduces the boy the world femininity. And started a private school for boys. And acting. The drama teacher decided to give terry a part in the school part. But not a male role. A role of a girl.

Dear Reader:

My name is Sarah Silverman. I was once primarily known for saying the word "poop" and getting paid above market rates for it. But those days are over, because I am now going to be known for having written a book. Why did I write a book, you might wonder? Because it just seemed like the right time to be getting into the publishing industry.

I'm kidding. Publishing is rotting like an abandoned possum carcass on the shoulder of I-95. I know that for a fact, because shortly after my book deal was announced, I kept hearing people lament the imminent demise of literature. These days there is only one reason to write a book: to be taken seriously. And that is exactly what is about to happen to me. I'm an author now! Like Ernest Hemingway and Fyodor Dostoevsky!

When I was asked to provide text for an author page, I decided to approach it in a scholarly manner, because that's what authors do. I looked to other author pages for inspiration, and I learned so much. For example, while Hemingway and Dostoevsky do not have their own author pages on Amazon.com, Paris Hilton does. And so does former teenage porn star and multi-tasking fellatrix, Traci Lords. Hemingway and Dostoevsky might be wondering, quite literally, "Whom do I have to blow to get my own author page?" If someone had a cruel sense of humor, they might respond to Hemingway, "How about your head off? Oh wait – you already DID that!" But such a remark would be in bad taste, and as a serious author, I'm above all that.

I also learned that Paris' dog, Tinkerbell Hilton, has her own book too. I read a few pages and found the prose to be overwrought, but you can imagine that, being a dog, she'd be coming from a place of needing to prove something. By the way, here's a quote from a review of Paris' book that I found on her Amazon.com author page:

"Heiress, socialite, model, actress, singer and media darling Hilton loves her life, knows how to get what she wants and matter-of-factly explains how anyone can be a glamorous, fun-loving, tiara-wearing heiress just like her… [Paris’] advice to 'channel your own inner heiress, create your own image, and project an extreme sense of confidence' is an empowering message for young women."

This was profoundly inspiring to me. It made me realize: if young women can read Hilton's book and become heiresses, they can likewise read my book and become anxiety-ridden bedwetters. And amidst this generation of disposability that favors the digital over the physical, shopping online rather than in stores (oops, this is awkward!), and reading from LCD screens rather than from print on paper, it's nice to know that I will have left a permanent stain by which future generations shall know of my existence. So read The Bedwetter, if not for me, then for the children.

Demonstrating that her penchant for swearing began at an early age, comedian Silverman begins her hilarious memoir by describing how, at age three, she gleefully responded to her grandmother's offer of brownies with shove 'em up your ass. Growing up in New Hampshire (where cows are well done and Jews are rare), Silverman naturally gravitated toward performing and moved to New York, where she attended and eventually dropped out of New York University to pursue a standup comedy career. Mixing show business moments (she wrote for Saturday Night Live for one season, but none of her sketches made it past dress rehearsal) with stories of her childhood and adolescence (punctuated by a persistent bedwetting problem), Silverman never shies away from poking fun at her own expense. Though she's best known for sexually explicit jokes, Silverman is able to address more serious subjects in the book without losing her edge, particularly her teenage struggle with depression and that her often abrasive public persona allowed her to say what I didn't mean, even preach the opposite of what I believed.... Comedian Sarah Silverman is an acquired taste. If you like orgasms, farts, and excrement, she is delicious. In her memoir, Silverman takes readers on a tour of the underground tunnel that is her mind, and believe me, it is as full of muck as the sewers of Paris. Only funnier. She comes by all this filth naturally. By the time she was three, her father had taught her every swearword known to man, and she quickly learned that spouting them on any occasion was adorable. (Also, yelling out statements like “I love tampons” in the grocery store was pretty cute, too.) But Silverman is not just writing this book to gross out her readers (though, honestly, that—and the money—is probably the main motivation). She is also writing to tell what it’s like to be an outsider: a Jewish girl growing up in New Hampshire; a woman comedian in a notoriously male profession; and a bed wetter of epic proportions. On the latter topic, she layers her outing with jokes and pathos, but it’s the e-mails between her and her editor that show the truth of the old adage that comedy is tragedy plus time. She wants the subtitle of this to be Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee. He insists on pee-pee. Like so much of this book, it’s an absurdist’s delight. --Ilene Cooper

A Wonderful Book

I expected this book to be hilarious, and it is. (I'm not even going to qualify that by adding "...if you're a fan of Sarah's comedy." It's just funny. Period.) What I didn't expect were the sensitivity and sincerity that Sarah has brought to both the writing of the book and to its glimpses behind the scenes into her personal life and the thoughtfulness behind the humor.

The section in which Sarah's editor earnestly tries to explain to Sarah, a professional comedian, what's "really" funny (and why) is worth the price of admission all on its own.

I think there are some things that many people believe deep down they could also do just as well as the professionals, if only they had the time, the inclination, etc. I suspect that professional comedy is one of those things. So what I really appreciated about this book is the way Sarah explores comedy as a craft that is diligently developed and honed over time. You might not like her jokes, but you have to respect her commitment to the work that goes into them.

As a person who appreciates both Sarah's humor and the dedication of craftsmen in all walks of life, this book just worked for me on every level. I highly recommend it.

Put me to sleep for a few nights, can't say I am a big fan of hers, and storyline based so much on someone's bladder control issues kinda lost it's funny factor quickly. Let's face it, she isn't that funny-but better than reading something depressing.

About the Author
John Leach served in three Anglican parishes before taking up his appointment in 1997 as Director of Anglican Renewal Ministries. Following a period in secular work as a truck driver, he worked with three churches on the Island of Jersey. He was appointed in 2004 to the post of Parish Development Adviser in the Diocese of Monmouth, in the Church in Wales. He has written widely on topics related to renewal, music, liturgy, and worship, and lives with his family in Newport, South Wales.

Compiled from the U.S. National Herbarium collection, the largest of its kind in the world, it is the only complete manual of U.S. grasses available and one of the basic reference works on U.S. plant life. It catalogs and describes in detail all 1,398 numbered species in 169 numbered genera found in this country, plus 120 species in 16 genera of the so-called “waifs.” Professor Hitchcock is the former Chief Botanist in charge of systematic agrostology for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, by whom the work was originally published, and an internationally known authority.
The heart of the book is its detailed descriptions of the family of grasses, the two main subfamilies, the tribes, genera, and species. Quick finding keys are provided for the identification of tribes and genera. Each of the species is given thorough botanical description, including various aspects of its morphology — size, shape, form of culms, blades, panicles, spikes, and flowers — and height, proper planting season, and range of distribution are noted. The Manual also outlines the common uses to which grasses are put and discusses in general terms their distribution, classification, nomenclature, and common names. The 1,199 drawings make identification of any grass species found in the United States a virtual certainty. The appended synonymy of alternate names for each species provides an authoritative taxonomy, eliminating confusion.
The nature lover with no more technical equipment than a keen eye can use this manual with profit, for a glossary of botanical terms is included. Naturalists, botanists, agriculturists, and horticulturists will find it valuable as a field and research guide to virtually all the grasses that grow in this country.

Landmark work

This two volume set was a landmark in its field. The taxonomy has changed a bit in the last 60 years but as someone else here noted, the grasses haven't changed and these books have the best illustrations and descriptions, and also botanical keys, to learn to identify them. Illustrated by Agnes Chase, who worked directly under Hitchcock for several decades, you can't get any better than this.

If you're new to grasses and want a primer to get a handle on the basic anatomy and structure I would strongly recommend you get Chase's A First Book of Grasses, which remains a little classic. It uses a top down approach, giving you the concepts of the genera from the standpoint of the grass spikelet being a reduced, leafy, flowering branch. From there it starts with the simplest spikelets that have remained relatively unchanged and proceeds to the grasses that have diverged the most from the original, basic plan and are often more specialized. If you combine Chase and Hitchcock's books you'll have the best of both approaches.

Like Grass 2?

This book and its Volume One companion are not new books, but together they are the definitive study of US grass plants. The black & white line drawings show detail that a photo cannot. These two books are probably a bit much for most people, but if you really are interested in identifying the native grasses, these will do the job for you.

I bought both volume 1 and volume 2 of this book. What a great book. Brought back nice memories of sitting in the botany lab pulling Bromus rigidus apart for experiments. Easy to use, great keys, fine b&w illustrations. Once the grass morphology terms clicked into the brain again it was very easy to use. Vol 2 has the glossary and index, so buying both volumes is recommended.

About the Author

Daniel P. Bovet got a Ph.D. in computer science at UCLA in 1968 and is now full Professor at the University of Rome, "Tor Vergata," Italy. He had to wait over 25 years before being able to teach an operating system course in a proper manner because of the lack of source code for modern, well-designed systems. Now, thanks to cheap PCs and to Linux, Marco and Dan are able to cover all the facets of an operating system from booting to tuning and are able to hand out tough, satisfying homework to their students. (These young guys working at home on their PCs are really spoiled; they never had to fight with punched cards.) In fact, Dan was so fascinated by the accomplishments of Linus Torvalds and his followers that he spent the last few years trying to unravel some of Linux's mysteries. It seemed natural, after all that work, to write a book about what he found.

Marco Cesati received a degree in mathematics in 1992 and a Ph.D. in computer science (University of Rome, "La Sapienza") in 1995. He is now a research assistant in the computer science department of the School of Engineering (University of Rome, "Tor Vergata"). In the past, he served as system administrator and Unix programmer for the university (as a Ph.D. student) and for several institutions (as a consultant).

Outstanding Reference Work

The Understanding the Linux Kernel (3rd edition) covers essentially all the kernel's major systems and methodologies in depth. It also conveys a deep understanding in terms that an average computer programmer can grasp with effort. Those of you who have designed and built your own operating systems will also gain insight with this book into the reasoning used to do things like memory allocation, device I/O copy operations, and deep memory management techniques. It covers in depth the 32 bit paging systems, but is a little shy on the new SLUB allocator and x86_64 bit paging. IA64 is covered in adequate detail, but more focus is on the 32 bit side of the house. Overall it does give you the locations to look for more information and provides a well organized and intuitive guide to the Linux kernel in general. Highly recommended reading if you are looking to truly understand the Linux kernel, or do things around it (i.e. circumvention of security mechanisms, etc.).

It covers enough to start hacking the kernel pretty easily. Pretty wonderful.

The only reason it's not 5 stars is b/c I bought the kindle edition, where all the tables (which hold important data!) are completely mangled. Other kindle books use scans of the tables, and other ebook systems spend engineering time on making tables display well.

a solid companion for walking though the kernel source

My need was specific, i.e., to add a new system call interface to Linux without ever having worked with the Linux kernel before. This book has been a fine guide for accomplishing this. The Linux kernel moves fast enough that no published text could be completely consistent with the current source. However, this was close enough to give me a lay of the land and the treatment of memory management and process/thread control had enough routine names and labels that I could search through the source with relative ease. I would recommend it for anyone else jumping into the kernel for the first time.

About the Author
Joseph R. Dominick received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 1970. He taught for four years at Queens College of the City University of New York before coming to the College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia where, from 1980 to 1985, he served as head of the Radio-TV-Film Sequence. Dr. Dominick is the author of three books in addition to The Dynamics of Mass Communication and has published more than thirty articles in scholarly journals. From 1976 to 1980, Dr. Dominick served as editor of the Journal of Broadcasting. He has received research grants from the National Association of Broadcasters and from the American Broadcasting Company and has consulted for such organizations as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the American Chemical Society.

I needed this book for Mass Comm class but it originally cost $132. So I checked Amazon and they had it for way less! I was even able to download it immediately.

Great book on Mass Communication

I used this book for a class. If you want to learn about popular forms of mass communication then I recommend this book. It puts it in laymen terms. I don't work in the mass comm industry but consume mass comm greatly. This made me understand the inner workings of the devices of communication I use on the daily. It also helped me see how technical mass communication is and how departmentalized and divided it is. I also learned why it's so hard for musical artists to make money in entertainment. I never knew their money was divided so many ways between so many entities when it comes to their albums and songs. This is a great book for any one who is interested in Mass Communications and wants to learn the basics and theory behind what it is and about popular forms like radio, TV, advertising, movies, etc.

Great textbook, rental is good deal

I bought this book for my son through Amazons semester rental deal, which was less than half the cost of buying it at his school. He enjoys the book and it has helped him get A's on all his tests for his Media class. He says it is up to date and interesting; the inside cover has a pic of Prince William's & Catherine's wedding. The book covers all media from its history up to current blogs & media issues through 2012. We are pleased with the rental deal, they send us a prepaid envelope when we are done with it and then we ship it back, saving us the hassle of re-selling it. I agree with the other reviewer about price, all text books are ridiculously over priced.
