About the Author
Edward Bond's grim portrait of urban violence, Saved (1965), in which a baby is stoned in its pram, aroused much admiration as well as a ban from the Lord Chamberlain. His provocative plays include Early Morning (1969), Lear (1971), The Sea (1973), The Fool (1975), Restoration (1981), Summer (1982), The War Plays (1985) and Olly's Prison (1992).

Edward Bond has been neglected as a dramatist, while he keeps writing fantastic plays.
This latest volume of his plays proves that he hasn't lost touch with the world and is able to provoke and make you think.
His introduction to the volume shares his thinking about the role of drama and contemporary issues, but the plays go much further, they are political not because they deal with issues, but because they aim to question where each member of the audience stands and open up a gap that they need to fill themselves.
It is best to see Bond's plays on stage, second best to read them. If he is not on in a theatre near you, it could be a good idea to buy this volume.
