Another Great Textbook

Modern Physics by Taylor, Zafiratos, and Dubson is a great book which gives historical perspective to the development of modern physics. I was especially interested in Parts 1 and 2 to "brush up" on the topics of Special Relativity and basic Quantum Mechanics, topics I last studied in college quite a long time ago.
This book is very well written and shows a logical progression of each topic's equations so that a person with a basic calculus background can follow. (This book has great qualities similar to "Classical Mechanics" also authored by John Taylor.)
Some people might complain about the section on Quantum Mechanics not being sufficiently rigorous. This book might not have the rigor of a graduate school text such as Merzbacher's Quantum Mechanics but as an introductory text it isn't meant to. I found it, overall, to be a great book.
You'll find the problems in each chapter nicely divided into 3 categories: Easy, Medium, and Challenging. Answers to most of the odd numbered problems are in the back of the book.
I deliberately ordered a new copy of the book which was printed in the USA. Buying International Editions puts you at risk for lower quality printing and lower quality materials which some people have complained about. My book was in excellent condition.

Too much filler, too little content

I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who already owns an introductory physics text such as Halliday and Resnick or the Feynman Lectures...the quantity of material beyond the scope of those books is very disappointing. The authors seem more interested in pretty pictures and impressive graphs than content. The only chapter I found useful was the chapter on nuclear physics. If you can find this book used for a bargain, it might be worth the money, but at the full price, purchase at your own risk.
